I walked into my first CrossFit box in Canggu wearing a pair of Nikes I’d been running in for three years, no idea what the WOD was, and a quiet certainty that I could keep up with anyone. Twenty minutes later I was flat on a concrete floor staring at a bamboo ceiling, completely wrecked, while a cheerful Australian coach asked if I wanted water. That was my introduction to CrossFit in Canggu — and it turned out to be the best fitness decision I’ve made in Bali.

Canggu isn’t just surf and smoothie bowls. It’s become one of Southeast Asia’s strongest destinations for CrossFit and high-intensity training, with more boxes per square kilometre than anywhere else on the island. Whether you’re a seasoned CrossFitter looking for a drop-in while travelling, or you’ve been curious about trying it and fancy starting somewhere with a rooftop sunset view, this guide covers every box worth your time — with real prices, honest opinions, and the practical details you actually need in 2026.

Why Canggu has become Bali’s CrossFit capital

Five years ago, if you wanted a proper barbell workout in Bali, your options were a handful of dusty local gyms with mismatched dumbbells. Canggu changed that. The combination of digital nomads who train daily, a growing expat community that takes fitness seriously, and enough disposable income to support premium facilities has turned this stretch of coast into a proper fitness hub.

There are now at least five dedicated CrossFit or functional fitness boxes within a fifteen-minute scooter ride of each other, plus a handful of HIIT and strength studios that cater to the same crowd. The competition keeps standards high — coaches are qualified, equipment is looked after, and most boxes actively welcome drop-ins. You can arrive in Canggu on a Monday, walk into any of these gyms, and be training by Tuesday morning without signing a long-term contract.

What makes the CrossFit scene here different from back home is the atmosphere. Classes run in open-air spaces, often with rice paddy or rooftop views. The community is international — you’ll train alongside Australians, Brits, Scandinavians, Brazilians, and Indonesians. And because so many members are travellers or remote workers on rotating schedules, there’s none of the cliquiness you sometimes get at boxes where everyone has been coming for five years. I’ve made more gym friends in Canggu in a month than I did in two years at my box in London.

The best CrossFit boxes in Canggu: tried and tested

CrossFit Canggu (Fortitude Bali)

This is Canggu’s dedicated CrossFit affiliate and, for me, the best pure CrossFit experience on the island. It sits on the rooftop of Fortitude Bali on Jl. Pantai Berawa — three storeys up, open-air, with views you won’t get at any box back home. The programming is proper CrossFit: daily WODs at 7:00, 12:15, and 16:15 on weekdays, plus Barbell Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Engine sessions for conditioning, and gymnastics work.

The coaching is what sets it apart. Sergio holds a CrossFit Level 3 certification and specialises in Olympic lifting and gymnastics. Yunus, a Level 2 coach, was named Fittest in Indonesia in 2021. They actually correct your form rather than just cheerleading from the side.

Drop-in is IDR 275,000 per class. New members get a month of unlimited classes for US$84. Open gym runs from 10:45 to 16:00 on weekdays. Hours are Monday to Friday 7:00–19:00, Saturday and Sunday 7:30–13:00. Book through the Wodify app or just turn up.

One thing to know: it’s open-air with no air conditioning. At 7:00 AM that’s lovely. At midday in dry season, it’s punishing. Pick your session time carefully.

S2S CrossFit

S2S is where CrossFit in Bali started — the island’s first affiliate, running since 2013. It’s on Jl. Raya Semat on the Berawa side of Canggu, and it feels nothing like a commercial gym. This is a small, tight-knit box with classes capped at around 12 people, which means you get proper coaching attention on every lift.

The programming focuses on technique-driven CrossFit with a real emphasis on Olympic lifting form. If you’re the sort of person who cares about whether your clean is actually a clean and not a muscle clean with a prayer, S2S is your place. They also run beach workouts, which sounds like an Instagram gimmick until you try sprinting on sand with a sandbag and realise it’s brutal.

Drop-in is IDR 200,000 — the cheapest of the dedicated boxes. Monthly membership is around IDR 1,400,000. Hours are Monday to Friday 7:00–18:00, Saturday 8:30–13:00. No booking needed — just arrive ten minutes before class.

Wanderlust Fitness Village

Wanderlust is the big one — a 2,000-square-metre fitness complex on Jl. Raya Padonan that’s part CrossFit box, part gym, part wellness centre, part social club. The equipment list reads like a catalogue: over 100 barbells, 125 kettlebells, 20 rowers, 22 air bikes, and 16 ski ergs. They run CrossFit WODs, Metcon sessions, Olympic Lifting, HYROX prep, boxing, Muay Thai, and yoga across 50-plus weekly classes.

The facilities go well beyond the training floor. A 25-metre pool, sauna, steam room, ice baths, an on-site café, and even rooms if you want to stay on-site. Monthly members get 10% off at the café.

Day pass is IDR 250,000 (unlimited classes). Weekly: IDR 650,000. Monthly unlimited: IDR 1,800,000. Open gym only: IDR 1,200,000 per month.

The trade-off? Classes can hold up to 90 people at peak times, so the coaching attention varies. And some of the energy leans more fitness festival than serious training — loud music, lots of phones out. If you want a focused, small-group CrossFit session, this isn’t it. If you want variety, recovery facilities, and a social scene alongside your WODs, Wanderlust has more to offer than anywhere else in Canggu.

BYND Fitness Club

BYND is the one you go to if you want your training served with aesthetics. It’s housed in a bamboo structure surrounded by rice fields on Jl. Pipitan Sari, and it looks like it was designed for someone’s Instagram grid — except the programming is strong.

Their BYND Fit classes are functional strength and conditioning that’ll feel familiar to any CrossFitter: barbell work, gymnastics movements, metabolic conditioning. They also run dedicated HYROX training — harder to find elsewhere in Canggu — plus Swim & Condish sessions using their 25-metre pool, and mobility classes.

Recovery is where BYND stands out. The facility has an infrared sauna, ice bath, and magnesium pool included with all passes — no extra charge. If recovery is part of your training routine, that matters.

Day pass: IDR 320,000. Weekly: IDR 1,300,000. Four-week pass: IDR 3,000,000. No booking required for classes; just turn up 15 minutes early.

CrossFit in Canggu: what it actually costs in 2026

Pricing across Canggu’s boxes is surprisingly consistent, but it’s worth knowing the range before you commit.

S2S is the most affordable at IDR 200,000 per drop-in, with monthly membership around IDR 1,400,000. CrossFit Canggu (Fortitude) charges IDR 275,000 per drop-in, or US$84 for a new member’s month of unlimited classes. Wanderlust’s day pass is IDR 250,000 with monthly unlimited at IDR 1,800,000. BYND is the priciest dedicated option at IDR 320,000 for a day pass, though the recovery facilities sweeten the deal. F45 sits at IDR 250,000 per drop-in or IDR 1,500,000 per month for structured HIIT classes.

For comparison, a CrossFit drop-in in London costs £15–25, and monthly memberships run £120–200. Canggu prices land at the lower end of that range, usually with better facilities and outdoor training environments. If you’re staying a month, most boxes give their best value on monthly passes.

One thing to watch: some gyms add 10% tax and 5% service charge on top of listed prices. Always ask whether the quoted price is inclusive before committing.

What to expect at your first CrossFit class in Canggu

If you’re dropping in for the first time, the process is straightforward at every box. Turn up 10–15 minutes before the class, tell them you’re a drop-in, and pay at reception. CrossFit Canggu and F45 prefer you book through their apps (Wodify and the F45 app), but it’s rarely enforced strictly.

Bring your own water — at least a litre, ideally 1.5. Canggu is hot and humid, and you’ll sweat through more than you expect, even in the early morning. Most boxes have showers and changing facilities. Fortitude provides complimentary towels, shampoo, and hair dryers.

The heat is the biggest adjustment. Open-air training in 30°C-plus humidity is a different thing entirely from a climate-controlled box at home. If you’ve just landed from a colder climate, give yourself two or three days to acclimatise before going full send on a WOD. I learned this the hard way — my first session after arriving from London, I bonked twenty minutes in and spent the rest of the hour scaling everything. By the end of my first week, the heat barely registered.

Wear light, breathable training clothes and bring a spare shirt — you’ll soak through your first one. Metcons or Nanos are helpful on lifting days, but trail runners are fine for conditioning-heavy WODs. Most people train in shorts and a vest or sports bra.

Beyond the box — high-intensity alternatives in Canggu

Not everyone wants the full CrossFit format, and two Canggu options are worth knowing about.

F45 Training on Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong runs 45-minute coached HIIT sessions that rotate between cardio, strength, and hybrid formats. It’s structured, air-conditioned, and social — IDR 250,000 per drop-in or IDR 1,500,000 per month. You book through the F45 app. There’s no open gym option — classes only — but if you want a hard session without programming your own workout, F45 does it well.

Nirvana Life on Jl. Pantai Berawa is a premium wellness and strength facility with over 100 weekly classes, including functional training, strength and conditioning, and HIIT sessions. The recovery suite is the best in Canggu: an ice bath at 4°C, a cold bath at 10°C, dry sauna, infrared sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and two pools including a 25-metre lap pool. A single class starts at IDR 170,000 (plus tax and service), and monthly memberships from IDR 2,120,000. It’s the priciest option in Canggu, but if recovery matters as much to you as the training, nothing else here comes close.

Canggu’s CrossFit scene is the real deal — not a watered-down holiday version of the sport, but properly coached, well-equipped training in settings you simply don’t get at home. Whether you want a focused, small-group session at S2S, serious CrossFit programming on a rooftop at Fortitude, the full village experience at Wanderlust, or something a bit more polished at BYND, there’s a box here that fits.

My advice? If you’re staying a week or more, try at least two different boxes before settling on your regular. The drop-in culture makes it easy, and each place has a different feel. And don’t skip the recovery — whether it’s the ice baths at BYND or a post-WOD swim at Wanderlust, your body will thank you in this heat.

If you’ve trained CrossFit in Canggu or you’re planning to, I’d love to hear which box you landed at. Drop me a reply or find me on Instagram @destinedfor.bali — always keen to compare notes.

FAQs

The top dedicated CrossFit boxes in Canggu are CrossFit Canggu (Fortitude Bali) on Jl. Pantai Berawa, S2S CrossFit on Jl. Raya Semat, and Wanderlust Fitness Village on Jl. Raya Padonan. BYND Fitness Club on Jl. Pipitan Sari offers functional fitness that’s very similar to CrossFit. Each has a different feel — S2S is small and technique-focused, Fortitude runs proper CrossFit programming on a rooftop, and Wanderlust is a large all-in-one fitness complex.

How much does a CrossFit drop-in cost in Canggu?

Drop-in prices at Canggu’s CrossFit boxes range from IDR 200,000 at S2S to IDR 320,000 at BYND. CrossFit Canggu (Fortitude) charges IDR 275,000, and Wanderlust’s day pass is IDR 250,000 for unlimited classes. Some venues add 10% tax and 5% service on top, so always ask if the price is inclusive.

Do I need to book CrossFit classes in Canggu in advance?

Most boxes accept walk-ins — just arrive 10–15 minutes before class. CrossFit Canggu uses the Wodify app for bookings, and F45 requires their own app, but neither enforces it strictly. S2S, Wanderlust, and BYND are all walk-in friendly. During peak morning classes, arriving early helps secure your spot.

Can beginners do CrossFit in Canggu?

Yes. Every box in Canggu scales workouts for different fitness levels, so you can start as a complete beginner. S2S is particularly good for newcomers because its classes are capped at 12 people, which means more individual coaching attention. CrossFit Canggu’s coaches also actively correct form rather than just running through the WOD.

What should I bring to a CrossFit class in Canggu?

Bring at least 1.5 litres of water — you’ll sweat far more in the heat than you expect. Wear light, breathable training clothes and bring a spare shirt. CrossFit shoes like Metcons or Nanos are useful on lifting days, but trail runners work fine for conditioning sessions. Most boxes have showers and changing rooms; Fortitude provides towels, shampoo, and hair dryers.

What’s the best time of day to train CrossFit in Canggu?

Early morning — the 7:00 AM class at most boxes — is the most comfortable in terms of heat. Open-air gyms like CrossFit Canggu and Wanderlust get very hot by midday, especially in dry season (April to October). Late afternoon sessions (16:00–17:00) are also popular once the worst of the heat has passed. F45 is air-conditioned, so timing matters less there.

Is there a CrossFit community in Canggu for travellers?

Absolutely. Most of Canggu’s CrossFit community is made up of travellers, digital nomads, and expats on rotating schedules, which makes it very welcoming to newcomers. Drop-in culture is the norm. S2S and CrossFit Canggu both have tight-knit communities that regularly socialise outside of training, and Wanderlust functions partly as a social hub.

Which CrossFit box in Canggu has the best recovery facilities?

BYND Fitness Club includes an infrared sauna, ice bath, and magnesium pool with every pass at no extra charge. Wanderlust has a 25-metre pool, sauna, steam room, and ice baths. For the most comprehensive recovery setup, Nirvana Life (not a CrossFit box, but a functional fitness option) has Canggu’s best suite: ice bath at 4°C, cold bath at 10°C, two saunas, steam room, jacuzzi, and two pools.

Can I do a CrossFit fitness holiday in Canggu?

Yes. S2S CrossFit runs dedicated fitness holiday packages that include accommodation, daily breakfast, airport pickup, unlimited classes, and daily yoga. Wanderlust Fitness Village also has on-site rooms you can book alongside a training membership. Either option lets you build a full training holiday without organising accommodation and gym separately.

Are there HYROX training options in Canggu?

BYND Fitness Club runs dedicated HYROX training classes, which are hard to find elsewhere in Canggu. Wanderlust Fitness Village also offers HYROX prep sessions as part of their weekly class schedule. Both venues have the equipment — rowers, ski ergs, sleds, and functional fitness stations — to run full HYROX simulation workouts.
